Driving from Mokihinui to Ngakawau, on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island.

Mokihinui is a small coastal settlement, about 40km north of Westport on the western shoulder of Kahurangi National Park. The Mokihinui River is the West Coast's third largest river and is a top-quality river that provides wonderful wilderness fishing, with large heads of fish being caught that can easily reach trophy size. The river is one of the country's top wilderness rivers, with good fishing throughout its length, though most popular are the two upper branches. The unique location provides access to Whitebaiting, Trout, Kahawai, and Herring fishing in the bordering river; and surf casting for Rig and Snapper off the beach.

The Kahurangi National Park is on the doorstep of the town, and it is the perfect spot for a relaxing breakaway or to use as a base for hunting, fishing, or whitebaiting. There is a variety of accommodation options available here with great dining options.

The town is situated between the sea and the foothills of the Glasgow Range, and State Highway 67 passes through Mokihinui just before reaching its northern end on the other side of the Mokihinui River.

Mokihinui is the perfect place to unwind. Light a beach bonfire, toast some marshmallows and listen to the waves lapping at your doorstep.
